In September 1980, Kate Bush released “Army Dreamers,” a mournful folk ballad sung from the perspective of a working-class Irish mother grieving her soldier son killed accidentally during military training exercises. The song was the third and final single from Bush’s dramatic concept album Never For Ever, which explored dark themes of madness, murder, and loss.
