The Akron Zoo will construct a new animal hospital, which will help the zoo continue to provide top-notch veterinary care for the more than 2,000 animals. The hospital is a $11.95 million project and construction is slated to begin in 2025, with a 2026 opening.
Akron Zoo welcomes new animals
The Akron Zoo is welcoming a few new animals to the zoo – one Sumatran tiger and two cinereous vultures. The zoo’s new female Sumatran tiger is named Sumini (sue-mee-nee) and she is two-years-old.

The zoo is offering two live webcams through the website – the grizzly bears and red wolves. Fans can watch the zoo’s two grizzly bears, Jackson and Cheyenne, or the three red wolves, Manny, Poco and Hawk, live from the comfort of their home.
