California Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered more than 224,000 state workers to return to the office four days a week starting July 1. The mandate, which affects 24,182 workers in the Bay Area, is part of an executive order Newsom announced Monday.

Newsom is further scaling back California state employees' ability to work remotely. His in-person work order will likely face legal challenges from unions.
