Defense steps up late in the second half to help the No. 13 Terrapins secure a first-round bye in next week’s Big Ten tournament.

The noise is no longer after the Terps defeated No. 17 Michigan, 71-65, Wednesday in Ann Arbor in their final true road contest of the season. No. 13 Maryland won five of its final six games away from Xfinity Center, perhaps saving its best for last with a top-20 victory over a Wolverines team ranked second in the Big Ten standings.

If Michigan was able to take care of the basketball better, they probably win this game. At the end of the day, Maryland deserves a lot of credit for how they were able to defend and make things difficult for the Wolverines in this game. However, the Wolverines also made a lot of silly mistakes that were self-inflicted.
