US Lebanon envoy Lisa Johnson met mediator Nabih Berri, the Lebanese Parliamentary Speaker, and submitted the US proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, according to a report

The head of Lebanon's largest Christian party said Iran-backed Hezbollah should relinquish its weapons as quickly as possible to end its year-long war with Israel and spare Lebanon further death and destruction.

The World Bank says the Israel-Hezbollah war has cost Lebanon $8.5 billion in physical damages and economic losses. Housing has borne the brunt of the destruction with nearly 100,000 units damaged.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that an unconditional cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel is "the first priority," calling for intensifying international and Arab efforts to prevent a large-scale war.
