On his Truth Social platform Friday night, President Trump wrote that "the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed."

The killing comes as the group has been reconstituting in Syria, carrying out more attacks than at any time since it lost control of its territory nearly six years ago.

A top ISIS leader has been killed, according to the U.S. Central Command. U.S. and Iraqi forces carried out what the U.S. calls a precision airstrike in Iraq to take out the number two leader of ISIS known as Abu Khadija.
