Tax season is underway, with the IRS accepting returns starting Jan. 27. More than 140 million Americans are expected to file before the April 15 deadline. However, those who submitted their forms have used the “Where’s My Refund?

The IRS started accepting tax returns on January 27, 2025, with a filing deadline of April 15, 2025. E-filing with direct deposit is the fastest way to get refunds, typically within 21 days.

A tax refund is a reimbursement to taxpayers who have overpaid their income taxes, and so the government sends the money back. If taxpayers receive a large refund, they may well be having too much withheld from their paychecks by employers.
