The name "Buffalo Soldiers" refers to members of African American cavalry regiments who served in the U.S. Army in the western frontier the years following the Civil War.

Black veterans honored at the annual Buffalo Soldiers award ceremony Feb. 11, 2025 at the Fire Training Center in Pomona.

"The Buffalo Soldiers hold a special place in our history, leading and serving despite racism," said Rockland Legislator Toney Earl.
