It has been almost a year since Birmingham police officers say Mahogany Jackson was beaten, tortured, and killed.

Nearly a year after she first disappeared, the suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a Birmingham woman are returning to court.

The Speedy Trial Act, a bill drafted by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, would allocate new resources for already backlogged criminal courts across the state.
