VHP calls on Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of allegations regarding the adulteration of Tirupati laddus

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a show cause notice to AR Dairy Food Private Limited, in the wake of reports which claimed that ‘animal fat’ was used in the adulterated ghee used as an ingredient for making Tirupati laddus,

The department plans to take action only after receiving the report from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare stated that additional measures on ghee quality will be considered after receiving the FSSAI report amid the Tirupati laddu controversy. The issue arose after allegations of substandard ingredients in the laddu,

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare confirmed that the department would wait for the report considering food safety falls under the purview of FSSAI.

Amid the ongoing controversy over Tirupati laddu, Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare on Monday said her department will consider additional measures to monitor ghee quality in the market only after receiving the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) report.
