Liverpool defeated Everton 1-0 in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Diogo Jota scored the only goal of the game but the decision to award it was surrounded in debate after Luis Diaz, who supplied the assist, was clearly offside in the build up.

Liverpool continued its march towards the Premier League title with a 1-0 victory over Everton in a scrappy Merseyside derby as Diogo Jota slotted home the winner in the second half.

In returning to winning ways after the body blows of being dumped out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain and losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United, Liverpool restored their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League and Jota celebrated his first goal since he salvaged a draw away to Nottingham Forest in January.
