China has commissioned the first of its next-generation Type 054B class of guided-missile frigates. The warship, which has been named CNS Luohe, was commissioned at a ceremony held at the military base in Qingdao on 22 January, China's Ministry of National Defense (MND) disclosed in a statement on the same day.

On Wednesday the Chinese Navy commissioned its first new-generation stealth frigate, the Type 054B, said to have "strong capabilities" for conducting combat operations. Newsweek has contacted the Chinese Defense Ministry for further comment by email.
