It was a disappointing day for one woman after she drove an hour, just to get turned around at Champaign’s Marketplace Mall. It all started when an employee called 911 saying they saw smoke coming from a store.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Shoppers and workers were evacuated from the Market Place Mall in Champaign late Tuesday morning. The Champaign Fire Department confirmed that a small fire in an HVAC unit was quickly contained around noon. There was no damage done to the outside of the building

The Champaign Fire Department has released more information about the fire that caused Marketplace Mall to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon. Officials with the Champaign Fire Department said a mall employee reported smoke coming from the ceiling tiles of an individual store.
