General Motors expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology that the automaker says will reduce costs and boost profitability of its largest electric SUVs and trucks.

GM says it has developed cells that will make batteries cheaper and more energy dense. The automaker aims to be the first to bring them to market.

GM has announced it has new EV battery tech that’s less costly and lighter than what’s currently in use. These new “groundbreaking” batteries are called LMR or lithium manganese-rich prismatic battery cells.
