Mardi Gras is going to be a rough one weather-wise for the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas, with the threat of dangerously high winds arriving early and thunderstorms in the afternoon, including the possibility of a few tornadoes and even hail, the National Weather Service says.
High winds, severe weather forecast for Mardi Gras in Lafayette: What to expect
Sustained winds are forecast to be between 20-30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph possible, according to the NWS. The highest wind gusts for Lafayette, Church Point and Opelousas are forecast to reach 47 mph. Gusts are forecast to reach 49 mph in New Iberia. Those high wind gusts are expected to reach the area at about noon Tuesday.
