Shootings with injuries were up 19% year-over-year, as of Oct. 19, the latest shooting statistics available.according to the latest Police Department statistics. A total of 188 people had been shot, up from 158 by the same time last year. Fatal shootings and other killings are down, however.

Officers have determined that a second man, killed Saturday on Brye Street, died from gunshot wounds in Durham

Durham police are investigating a second shooting in the same neighborhood in the past three days. Tuesday shortly after midnight, officers responded to the area of Lednum Street and Leon Street. Several minutes later, officers were notified that a man had been shot and taken to a local hospital by car; his injuries are life-threatening.

Since Saturday, two people have been killed and five others injured in shootings in Durham, leaving residents concerned about the recent spike in violence.

The Durham Police Department (DPD) has not released any other information. Durham continues to wrestle with gun violence. ▪ The City Council voted to end ShotSpotter, a gunshot-surveillance system after a study by a Duke University researcher found the audio sensors got police to shooting scenes more quickly but did not reduce shootings.
