Legend has it that bad luck comes in sets of three, which happened last week at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. On Thursday, a Delta Air Lines flight was the third aircraft to return to the airport shortly after takeoff in the past seven days,

“Following safety procedures, the flight crew of DL3067 returned to Charlotte after reporting a mechanical issue while en route to Atlanta,” a Delta spokesperson said. The airline apologized to customers for the delays to their travel plans. The flight had 71 customers, two pilots and three flight attendants.

On February 25, 2025, an American Airlines Airbus A321 operating Flight AA1216 from Charlotte to West Palm Beach was forced to return to Charlotte a few minutes after takeoff due to maintenance. This was the second American Airlines flight to return to the airport over the last few days.

Mid-air mechanical issues forced a pair of commercial flights from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport to turn back around and land shortly after takeoff this week. One occurred with an American Airlines jet on Tuesday while the other was a Delta flight on Monday.
