A senior official of the European Investment Bank says the regional lending agency is keen to double its funding for Bangladesh, but she expressed concern over human rights as the country endures a spell of political turmoil.

European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Bangladesh recently hosted a meeting with the vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Nicola Beer, and her team on January 8 at Bistro-E at the Bay's Edgewater in the capital.

Regarding international relations, Beer emphasized the EIB and European Union's shared goal of strengthening Bangladesh’s regional standing. Reaffirming the European Union’s unwavering support for the Bangladeshi people, she said that the EU wants to position Bangladesh as a strong nation on equal footing in the region.
