Tens of millions of people across the central and southern US are at risk Tuesday of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and fire weather on the storm’s warm side and blizzard conditions on its cold side.

The strongest storms could bring wind gusts as high as hurricane force (70-80 mph), according to the weather service. Winds like that could bring down lots of trees and power lines. A few tornadoes will also be possible, especially in southwest Alabama.

A powerful storm is sweeping across the central and southern US, putting millions at risk of exposure to extreme weather. The storm will lead to blizzards, tornadoes, and wildfire threats, as strong winds have disrupted Mardi Gras celebrations.
