The New York Attorney General’s Office is recusing itself from the investigation into the death of Messiah Nantwi, citing conflict of interest.

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick has been appointed as special prosecutor, according to state officials. Fitzpatrick holds the same role in the investigation and prosecution of the correctional officers accused in the death of Marcy Correctional Facility inmate Robert L.

Eleven staff members have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into Saturday’s death of New York prison inmate Messiah Nantwi, the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said in a release Monday.
