Orange County prosecutors on Wednesday filed misdemeanor charges against 10 demonstrators who were among dozens arrested in May during a pro-Palestinian protest on the UC Irvine campus in May. The charges are the first to stem from arrests at UCI in the spring.

The Orange County District Attorney charged 10 protesters on Wednesday for failing to leave UC Irvine while police cleared a pro-Palestinian encampment this June.

Ten people were charged on Tuesday with failing to disperse after police at the University of California, Irvine deemed a May protest on the school’s campus to be an unlawful assembly. According to a press release issued by the office of Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer,

A UC Irvine lecturer who faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly failing to disperse when police attempted to clear a student encampment said he has not faced any repercussions professionally. The charges stem from last May when law enforcement officials arrested more than 40 students on the university's campus after weeks of protests calling for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza.

Ten protesters will face misdemeanor charges in connection with a May 15 pro-Palestinian protest at UCI that police declared an unlawful assembly, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday. They were charged with failure to disperse at the scene of a riot, while two also were charged with resisting arrest, prosecutors said.
