California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the Trump administration was employing a “scare tactic” following a recent memo from the Department of Justice that outlined pathways to prosecution for state officials who refuse to comply with federal immigration officers.

Fears among undocumented immigrant communities continue to grow as the new administration prepares to take office on Monday. It comes after reports of Border Patrol raids in Kern and Fresno counties surfaced last week.

Democratic attorneys general are vowing to sue the Trump administration if the Department of Justice follows through on a recent directive requiring some local law enforcement to participate in federal immigration crackdowns.
