The Texas A&M Forest Service has put most of our area in an extreme wildfire risk today (5 out of 5). KXAN's Avery Travis and Will DuPree talk to Wildland Urban Interface Coordinator Laura Stevens about how first responders are preparing and how people in Central Texas can help.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said the dry conditions into the weekend will increase the risk of wildfires. "That means any spark that's created has the potential to spread very quickly," said Heather Gonzales, with the Texas A&M Forest Service. Along the highways across DFW are reminders about the extreme wildfire danger across the state.

Wildfires erupted in Texas on Tuesday afternoon in San Patricio County, and in Buda, a town just south of Austin. Strong winds have knocked out power to more than 20,000 customers.
