Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareno submitted her resignation effective March 31, paving the way for Johnson to appoint his choice to replace her — expected to be Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th) Johnson's former City Council floor leader.

Following the resignations from some key departments earlier this month, another long-time public servant is leaving. On Wednesday, Park District Superintendent Rosa Escareño announced her resignation,

Ramirez-Rosa is Mayor Brandon Johnson's choice to replace Rosa Escareno as superintendent of the Chicago Park District.

Escareño's initial appointment followed the ouster of longtime CEO and general superintendent Mike Kelly in the wake of a high-profile sexual abuse scandal involving Park District lifeguards.

Escareño's exit follows a series of departures by city leaders. She led the Park District through a staffing shortage and high-profile spats with neighbors over using parks for music festivals.

I loved being the alderman of the 35th Ward,” Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 36, said. “But you can’t turn down a job like this when you love Chicago as much as I do.”

Mayor Johnson has chosen Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa to head the Chicago Park District. The Chicago Park District Board voted unanimously in favor of the mayor’s pick of the Logan Square alderman.
