The Reds placed second baseman Matt McLain on the 10-day injured list with the hope that he can come back in a week.

McLain is dealing with what team officials on Tuesday called a slight left hamstring strain and he was placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to Friday when he was first lifted out of the Reds' starting lineup at Milwaukee due to the ailment.

Some believe the flurry of post-opener extensions in MLB is related to concerns over a potential labor shutdown late next year.
