The Detroit Tigers removed three players from MLB spring training in the second round of cuts, including 2016 No. 9 overall draft pick Matt Manning.

Manning, the former first-round pick, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday morning along with right-hander Tyler Mattison.

Manning logged five spot starts with the Tigers early in the season -- often in post-rainout doubleheaders -- but was largely supplanted in the rotation pecking order by Keider Montero as the season went on. He later battled a lat strain that kept him on the minor-league injured list for nearly two months.
