A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was damaged by gunfire en route to Haiti and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the airline said.

According to NBC 6 Miami, Flight 951 took off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport on Monday morning and was set to land in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Officials say the aircraft was hit by gunfire while coming into the city, which is consistent with the damage found during an inspection.
