Both supporters and critics of Everett, Massachusetts, Mayor Carlo DeMaria packed city council chambers Tuesday evening to respond to an explosive report released last week by the state inspector general's office.

Mayor Carlo DeMaria will be asked to repay $180,000 in longevity payments, as well as address other recommendations from the state inspector general, according to Tuesday's meeting agenda.

Following an investigation, Inspector General Jeffrey Shapiro said last week that Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria improperly used a longevity bonus ordinance. However, DeMaria is disputing that anything improper occurred.
