Lovely neighborhood to just walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. Not very big, but has all the touristy things - exchanges, souvenirs, restaurants (some a bit spicy in price), cafes and more. The go…Full review by marabujor6

Hi Diana, My partner and I stayed at Hotel Opera and we liked it but I would recommend you try Hotel Cumbres Lastarria. In my opinion the location of this hotel is better and the staff is more helpful. Everything about this hotel was just a notch above Opera. You have many excellent restaurants a few steps away and it's on a very lively street. Enjoy.

My wife, myself and 12 year old son felt fine day and night. We would be out till 10pm or 11pm and walk back to our rented apartment. That said we are from NYC. I grew up in NYC. My wife and son can speak Spanish. I found the area perfectly safe. One just needs to be aware of their surroundings as in any city. I find that the travel books always lean to the side of caution since they do not know who their readers are. Hope this helps. Anymore questions, do not be afraid to ask

I'm not sure of your desired "adventure level"... I've stayed in both Chapinero (where The Cité Hotel is located) and in Candelaria. Here's the thing... during the day, Candelaria is wonderful. The old buildings, the shops, restaurants... just the thing you want. But when the sun goes down, the vibe changes drastically. All of a sudden, this cool, exciting area turns menacing. If you are big and not afraid to talk your way out of trouble, then go for it. I've never been harmed there, but I have been harassed there. You may find that staying in Chapinero is the best option for you. It is safe and an easy taxi ride will get you to Candelaria during the daytime, and you can retreat to your hotel and for the night hours in a safer area.
