Is there any chance of you displaying the vast amount of items of local historical interest that you’ve held in archive for the last 50+ years? You know what a cache of things you own and have had bequeathed to you... why are they gathering dust while you display this sorrowful sack of sugar?! Why not tell the public quite what you have in store? Perhaps invite the local press to view quite what’s in storage?

The amount of artifacts that are in storage is unbelievable, enough to fill the old town hall 3 times over. I've seen some wonderful things that the public are unlikely to ever see. Artifacts ranging from the Stoneage the bronze age the iron age, post Roman Saxon, medieval, Tudor etc.. The conservators and especially the keeper of archaeology would dearly love to have control over what goes on display, but sadly everything, museums and artifacts are controlled by StAlbans council, none of them really care about displaying them to the local or wider public, as proven by the sale of the Hatfield rd museum, and the pitiful display in the hallway of the old town hall is pathetic. StAlbans has continuous unbroken history dating from the iron age to the present, but very few people know about it. As a local whose hobby is metal detecting I honestly have more in my private collection and from all eras than what's on show at the old town hall. The council have been promising a photographic display of some unseen artefacts for several years, but they don't want to pay for it.
What is the name of the artist that did the really nice metal dress in the ball room / assembly room? How long will this be on display for?

The artist is Susie MacMurray and the display is on until the 5th August. If you go to our website, under "What's On", it is listed as Masquerade, which is the name of the installation specially commissioned for the Museum + Gallery, coming out of one of the fireplaces in the Assembly Room.
